Melons are something I am loving right now. For the past week, I have been enjoying pieces of melon for my breakfast. Is there really a better way to start your morning? Ok, I hear you . . . coffee!! Yes, most people want to and do start their day with coffee . . . and probably lots of it. But why not experiment with Melon?
Perfect morning food . . . Melon! Melons are best eaten on an empty stomach, so they are ideal for breaking your night time fast. They are incredibly thirst quenching. Super easy to digest. Act as a natural diuretic. Low in calories. Virtually no sodium. Contain little or no fat and absolutely no cholesterol. Great source of vitamin C and dietary fiber. High in water content so makes them filling while not weighing you down. WOW!
More specifically, I have been enjoying Piel De Sapo Melons and Canary Melons. Piel De Sapo translates to toad skin. Now that sounds appetizing, right? It also is known as a Christmas Melon or the Santa Claus Melon because of it’s long keeping quality . . . “until Christmas”! The canary melon is also known as Amarillo melon. Both of these melons are closely related and members of the Cucurbitaceae family. No wonder, they are side by side at my local health store. They simply make a perfect pair.
Just try it! Buy some melons, put them in your fruit bowl, and in the morning cut into one.
To replacing the morning cup of coffee (at least until a wee bit later) . . . one melon at a time! Hugs, M.
