Snacks . . . I feel like I am always preparing snacks for my kids. It is a lot work all these mini meals. But also an opportunity to give them nutritious bites of goodness. Sometimes, they don’t even greet me with a kiss and hello on the school yard. Oh no . . . just the immediate question, “do you have something for me to eat?” I am a well trained mom, so I proceed to open up my purse (aka goodie bag) and pull out another snack. Mostly, they are satisfied with my offerings. But there are and will always be times they simply are not in the mood for the snack I have on hand. Being prepared is always good. I, surely, don’t like cranky, hungry kids. So, my simple solution is to have brown rice cakes, some fresh fruit cut up in containers, some nuts and dried fruit mixes on hand most days. Yes, it can be boring and then it is only a quick walk home where some other snack can be made. Thought I would share some of our new and recent snacks . . . for our different moods!
In the mood for something creamy and fatty . . . mini avocados! So easy . . . slice in half, remove pit, add a pinch of sea salt, fresh pepper and a squeeze of lemon or lime juice. Snack time has begun!
In the mood for something light, fresh and crisp . . . mini cucumbers! Eat as is or bust out a container of dip. My kids love cucumbers with a lemony hummus.
In the mood for something rich and decadent . . . inca berries covered in dark chocolate! A superfood berry made super yummy. Chocolate . . . who can’t resist?
Off to make some more snacks because the school bell is almost ringing . . . what will the mood of today be?
