Haldi doodh . . . Golden Milk

Haldi doodh is the traditional name for turmeric milk which is a common elixir used in India.  It is simply warmed milk with turmeric powder mixed in.  This household remedy is used for colds, sore throats, toothaches and upset stomachs.  During the cold and flu season, it is a good idea to help support your immune system.  Try this Golden Milk to help keep you warm and well!



I know you are probably thinking . . . yuck!  Turmeric warmed up in milk.  What . . . why?  But I only use turmeric in savory recipes.  Stop now.  

Turmeric is a common spice used in Ayurvedic recipes and for good reason.  Let me tell you just a bit about this spice . . .

Turmeric is known to support joint function, improve digestion and has many skin enhancing properties.  Curcumin, which gives turmeric it’s rich golden color, also boosts health benefits.  It supports blood and liver function, maintains cholesterol levels and helps your immune system function better during stressful times.  So, are you willing to give it a try?  Maybe . . . Yes, I knew I could win you over!



Now time to make some Golden Milk . . . my version includes some sweetness to cut the bitterness!

1 cup almond milk

1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 cardamon pod

dash of cinnamon to taste

heaping 1/2 teaspoon honey

Pour milk into a small pot and add in all other spices and honey.  Warm over a low heat.  When ready, pour into a mug, slowly sip and ENJOY drinking your Golden Milk!
